This album is an early solo effort by Matt Valentine which clearly paved a path for the rest of his output when he would be joined by Erika Elder. It doesn't get much more psychedelic and tribal than this folks! The first two songs sound like long lost recordings which might date back to what? Six hundred years ago!!!? It certainly feels like it was recorded in a huge empty castle; it's all very primitive but oh so original. Eventually things do become more up-to-date (the drones on Cocola Nebula certainly don't sound very medieval), but the ancient quality of the music remains, but this is mostly due to the reverb. The Fahey influences which would be a trademark sound for the duo surface on McNeill's Bottle Blues. The CD-R is limited to 99 copies, mine is an exclusive unnumbered copy which comes with a special cloth including the name of the band and rural imagery. |
