I could have bought this when it was first released back in 2004, but for some reason, I passed. Perhaps I didn't realize just yet how much of a fan I would eventually become and tried to focus solely on the duo's music and not the visuals (they released this a few months after I had first heard their work). The Temptation To Zoology is basically a twenty minute short film shot in black and white filled with strange Stan Brakhage-like imagery (albeit on a much simpler level) using images of the duo and their friends at home. Everyone delivers a few (off)screen lines of (off)beat-like poetry. When there isn't any talk, then we have silent-era title cards. All of it is edited in a slow, psychedelic fashion which tries to capture the essence of the artist's vision. There is of course tons of music from the duo and co. (including Dredd Foole in trance and singing!) I don't recognize any of the other songs, but I believe there is some Cosmic Dust [...] era material. |
