The Uranian Ray finds the duo once again injecting an unhealthy dose of psychedelic drugs into their sound (after the relatively tame Lunar Blues), a welcome return to their more out-there tendencies. On Solestrial II and Homegrown, for example, flanger effects are used to give the eastern-tinged songs this spaced-out feel. Other songs sound like they were recorded in another time and place, newly discovered gems dating back to over a hundred years ago and sounding like nothing else from that period. Hymn To The Seer is probably the best example on the album (although there are other shorter tracks which follow the same mold), a beautiful, ancient-sounding, but completely alien folk tune which'll have grandpa seeing through time. This limited release comes with slightly more elaborate packaging, the artwork is unfoldable and glued on the golden colored cardboard sleeve. Quite nice. |
