Neu!
The duo of Michael Rother and Klaus Dinger as Neu! are truly one of the founding fathers of Germany's krautrock movement, along with Amon Düül II and Faust. They are mostly known for their repetitive, metronome-precise rock tracks and their experimental edge. The riffs are usually simple, but the structure of the songs is what makes the tracks original. Like rock music applied to modern electronic techno; it's no wonder Astralwerks, a label mostly known for their trance-techno albums, have picked up these classic albums and re-released them.
Worth mentioning is the fact that Michael Rother was an original member of Kraftwerk. Neu! would eventually split up due to artistic differences, whereas Rother was the more artistic, experimental side of the band, Dinger was the more glamorous, rocking side. Together, they managed to make only a handful of albums which managed to perfectly balance these two sides, a large feat considering the vulnerability of such a polarized duo. They would both go on to record on their own. Michael Rother has released a few solo records and Dinger has recorded with La Düsseldorf.
