Album Cover

The perfect introduction to Hermann Nitsch's works. Not only does this box set include samples of his orchestral works, but it also includes a book (in both german and english) and a comprehensive, over two hour long documentary on the artist and his works, from his beginnings until today. Be farwarned however, the images on the DVD are EXTREMELY graphic and tough to stomach (I personally can't watch some parts). The information is quite extensive and is a great way to get an overall idea of what Nitsch is all about. If you, like me, are more interested in Nitsch's music, you are quite well served here as well. The three tracks included on the CD are very representative of what you might hear were you to delve deeper into Nitsch's discography. Ominous drones and unnerving atonal string arrangements feature throughout, as does the incessant chatter of the busy crowds; whether the music is quiet or bombastic, it is always disturbing.
