Ozone Layer

National Flag

Like the bastard mutated offspring of John Fahey (especially his finger-picking style), the Ozone Layer create their own brand of american folk music. Similarly to MV+EE or Kemialliset Ystävät, they include bizarre psychedelic noises and effects to make their songs lift off into a whole new dimension without ever sounding like the aforementioned band. They retain a certain groove and the funky rhythms from their parent project the Sunburned Hand Of The Man (yes, this is another side-project) and they even use a few of their sounds. They also use samples at times and bizarre instruments. Their sound is deeply rooted in folk, yet you wouldn't know what to expect from one song to the other. At times, the music becomes completely over-the-top! Very exciting music that's for sure, but I wish they would have released it under the Sunburned Hand Of The Man moniker; seems ridiculous to rename the band just because of a slight change in personal. This is one of the many artists I discovered while purchasing all the releases I was missing from the Manhand label through Volcanic Tongue.
