Painkiller
My absolute favorite John Zorn project (yes, like Painkiller even more than I like Naked City). Naked City sound insane at times, but never as much as Painkiller. This is some dark and intense music. Doom-jazz with dub overtones (well you weren't going to escape that part with Laswell behind the bass). Although albums differ greatly from one to the other, the group will mostly be remembered for those including Zorn's apocalyptic saxophone squeals and pending doom bass and drums.
Being fascinated by Zorn through his Naked City project, it wasn't long before I heard of Painkiller. Not only that, but it seemed to be much more difficult to find Painkiller albums as well (which made them all the more fascinating to me). Just looking for the albums became a huge thrill for me and getting a headache from blasting them through my stereo was my reward for finding them. I even remember hassling a "friend" of mine to get him to sell them to me (it didn't work).
