Pelt
Here's another band that emusic.com helped me discover (among many other bands on VHF Records). I've known about them for several years, but it took me several years to actually sit down and pay attention and even then I wasn't convinced at first. To me, they sounded like an inferior Vibracathedral Orchestra with vocals. Their sound was also influenced by traditional middle-eastern and hindu music, but they managed to make it sound heavier and included drums. They would become more and more psychedelic as time went by however, their sound matured greatly and soon became their own entity. Pelt was also the first time I heard of Jack Rose who went on to make devastatingly good solo records. I wasn't planning on getting any of their records, but found a few of them used in a store so I couldn't pass up on the occasion.
