Easily my favorite mid-period Residents album. This complex tale of sex, guilt, siamese twins and religion is extremely confusing and no matter how much I listen to it, I still can't figure it out. The story is fun to hear however, the southern dialect of the narrator and chorus is a nice touch. I adore the way the chorus announces almost crucial things about the piece, from the production credits on Main Titles to the warning on Devotion? ("Something's coming, but not real soon") or the mood of the moment on Loss Of A Loved One ("This is the sad part, oh, it's such a sad part"). Musically, the whole album stems from the same few chords. It might follow different paths on each song after going through slight variations, but the root is always the same. The Euro Ralph edition comes with an extra CD of instrumental excerpts which was available separately before on the Ryko editions.
