The Residents first widely available record is their rawest one. The melodies are often quite harsh and arrhythmical. Boots starts the album with a great new twist to the famous song by Nancy Sinatra. The first six tracks blend into each other, creating the illusion of a much longer track. Breath And Length includes some weird yelps and xylophone (?) sounds and becomes a very demented lullaby complete with freak-out guitar noise. Smelly Tongues's weird chorus and riff make for a fun listen. It has gone on to become a classic Residents tune and shows up on many compilations. Not one song is the same, yet the album holds up very well and doesn't feel all over the place. It is quite a difficult listen however and newbies to The Residents might want to look elsewhere first. The albums cover is a clever take on The Beatles Meet The Beatles. George Harrisson is said to have enjoyed the spoof.
