Volume two in The Residents' Mole Trilogy is one of the rare cases in the group's history where I find that the album's concept seems to be more important then the overall quality of the music. The basic idea behind the album is to hear music from the two clans on which the whole trilogy is based, namely, the Chubs and the Moles. The listener is supposed to pay attention to the cultural differences and make sense out of it all. Unfortunately, the music is often not all that interesting and besides some of the Moles' darker contributions, the dark or playful mood of other Residents albums takes a hit. The cheesy synth sounds are annoying at times and the music feels even boring. The only real highlight in my opinion is Happy Home, but even it has a better version on the Live In Holland album. Fun and a must for the hardcore collector, but nothing essential for the random fan.
