Salvatore
Norway's answer to post-rock is actually much better then many others who jumped that train. It's got everything the genre requires, repetitive motorik guitar riffs and rhythms, a quiet/loud dynamic, a techno-like progression in layers of sound that often builds to an orgasmic climax and a healthy dose of strange noises. These guys have obviously done their homework because, contrary to groups that simply emulate pioneers of either krautrock or post-rock (how many Tortoise clones have bloomed since these guys made it "big"?), Salvatore actually take specific elements and manage to create a sound of their own. Yes, sometimes you can see through them, but most of the time, the music is so powerful that it equals that of their own influences.
I myself was doubtful about this group at first and it took one of those bargain bin finds to make me go ahead and try them out (at three bucks, it's worth the challenge). Even after buying it though it took some time before I decided to pop it into my CD-player, but when I did, I let it play through (something I rarely do when testing out artists). Absolutely recommended. More on the way.
