Alan Silva
Although born in Bermuda to bermudan and english parents, Silva has acquired his american citizenship at the age of five (but lives in Paris, France since the seventies). Silva is a renowned accompanist who has worked with the biggest names in avant-garde jazz including Sun Ra, Albert Ayler, Archie Shepp and Cecil Taylor (to name a few). A multi instrumentalist, Silva often uses a wide variety of instruments on his recordings, from electronic keyboard to the sarangi! Although I had heard his name before, I am unfamiliar with his work and started listening to his work one cold winter day when I decided to broaden my jazz horizons after finding a few key albums on sale used in downtown Montreal. His solo albums seem few, but I will definitely be on the lookout for more.
