Very deep and noisy drones on this release. A lot less vocals too (or maybe they're so distorted that I just darn can't hear'em!). Dark and gloomy soundscapes make for an anguish-filled listening experience. The quality of the sound is also much lower than usual. It all sounds so far away with the highs being almost nonexistent. This is much closer in spirit to the noisier side of the like-minded Double Leopards and lacks the weird and playful side of the band which was present on other releases like Crowned Purple Gowns or Talking Head. Like a thousand diseased cats dying a horrible death in a darkened alley put to tape... plus reverb. Not for the faint of heart and not the right place to start if you are unfamiliar with The Skaters, but a good release nonetheless. |
