Reign In Blood might be Slayer's all-time classic, but South Of Heaven remains my personal favorite. It's not as consistent as it's predecessor and it weakens slightly as the record progresses, but the highlights more than make up for this. Just a quick listen to the title track and you'll believe me. I don't believe anyone has ever come as close to sounding like pure, undiluted evil as during the slow intro guitar riff to this song! It's the musak that will play in the elevator that will send us all down to hell the day we die. To add to the praise of this album, I'll also state that it includes my absolute favorite Slayer track ever: Live Undead! The way the song builds up, the atmosphere and Araya's sick vocal delivery are truly the mark of genius at work. I do tend to cringe once I reach Dissindent Aggressor however, that hockey game vibe, guitar squeal and all, gets on my nerves (-Let Gary Glitter fuck you!).
