Every time I hear Dragonaut as it falls into gear with the main riff kicking in along with the vocals, all I can see are those two Gummo kids (from the Harmony Korine flick) on their BMX bikes in my mind as they patrol the streets on the lookout for stray cats to kill. It's a kick ass song, totally stoner and psychedelic as fuck. Unfortunately, it's the only truly amazing song on the record. Most of the other tunes fall into the Black Sabbath emulating category with slightly more aggressive vocals. Even the title track sounds like a rehash of their own Dragonaut! Where's the inspiration? And the few lyrics which I manage to decipher are embarrassingly cheesy; like teenagers speaking "prog", they talk of "lizard monster kings" and "casting spells of frost". As a formative effort, it's quite interesting, but they were going to create much better and, dare I say, influential music in the future.
