Album Cover

Sonic Youth's first full album is quite indicative of where these artists come from. These songs just shout "NYC noise rock". You could easily draw comparisons to the early works of fellow new yorkers Swans or Mars. But then again, you wouldn't mistake them for anybody else (how could one not recognize Thurston Moore distinctive croon?). Not unlike, their first EP, these songs sound quite primitive, like cave-man rock, or a slightly more coherent version of Mahogany Brain. I love the more experimental tracks of the album: the noise/ambient Freezer Burn (which leads the way to an incredible cover of The Stooges I Wanna Be Your Dog) for example or the chiming wintry tones of Lee Is Free. Tagged along with this edition of Confusion Is Sex is the Kill Yr. Idols EP, the title track probably being the most coherent thing on the whole record. -Kill your idols! Sonic! Death!!!
