After years of releasing pop/noise classics, Sonic Youth decided they'd go back to their roots and release work more akin to their early efforts. Perhaps the birth of Moore and Gordon's baby is behind this artistic decision. They wouldn't completely abandon the pop tendencies that brought them fame (Sunday), but they were definitely leaning towards the twisted side of the scale. Opening track, Contre Le Sexisme for example, is basically Kim's half-sung vocals over bizarre static noises and guitar chimes. I remember buying this CD during a six month stay in Sweden without much money (so I had to choose carefully). I listened to the album a few times, but I never really enjoyed it, I tried everything! Listening to it now does give me flashbacks to my first stay in Eskilstuna and my loved one at the time. Some of the "out-there" jams are nice, but the more structured parts are dull in comparison.
