I still can't believe there's a soundtrack to this movie! Erotic cinema master Walerian Borowczyk's early medieval film about a shakespearian love triangle is already very difficult to find in any format, so imagine a soundtrack. I was lucky enough to find it on eBay a few years back. Each song is an original composition played by a specialist ensemble using ancient instruments from the era. The most fascinating song to me is the opening Sic Mea Fata which is the theme song played during the opening credits. It makes Dead Can Dance's album Aion, with it's gothic recreation of medieval pop tunes, pale in comparison. A truly powerful song with a simple melody. Any fan of music from the time should hunt this one down, but good luck finding it! The single comes in a nice gatefold cover with plenty of information about the recordings written in Borowczyk's handwriting. |
