I've never been a fan of this release. Much in the same vein as his Go Plastic release, I find it has it's moments, but there are too few of these to keep me focused on the music throughout. The titled track, which was first released as an untitled 12' vinyl, is an exception; I really enjoy the whole piss take on the whole 2-step garage sound of the time. I also believe I am one of the very few who enjoys Jenkinson's faithful, but unlikely cover of Joy Division's classic Love Will Tear Us Apart. The whole middle section of the album alternates between experimental bits (Conk 2 Symmetriac) and completely, over-the-top spastic tunes (Anstromm-Feck 4 is simply unbearable). This CD version also includes a whole CD of live Squarepusher material (mostly culled from this release and Go Plastic) from a gig in Japan. You can hear the crowd eating everything up and begging for more. This makes it a fun listen, but I very rarely go back to it. |
