With Go Plastic, Squarepusher revisits the more playful and spastic side of his earlier releases. It reminds me quite a bit of Hard Normal Daddy but with an overload of beats and a lot less melody. The drill'n'bass rhythms are at times so fucking intense that it becomes irritating without a mellow background to balance things out (check out The Exploding Psychology). There a bunch of fun bits on the album, but on the whole, I find that Go Plastic doesn't include enough memorable moments to make this a must have. Jenkinson usually has a knack to balance his albums out enough to have nice flow from song to song, but here I find that the listener is constantly assaulted by sounds from all sides without anything steady to hold on to. You have to be in the right mood before tackling this one on because it will irritate you unless you're on some sort of extremely powerful stimulant drug. Exhausting!!!
