Album Cover

This is a pretty alien sounding release by Squarepusher, like rave music for the population of a distant planet. The beats are typical of Jenkinson, but the melody (which is basically like listening to ambulance sirens from all over the world all sounding at once) is completely out of this world. Don't know what it is about the Squarepusher sound, but the man has a unique sound which he can re-visit whenever he wants without ever being accused of recycling the same ideas. Although this 12" vinyl is the official release of Venus No. 17, it also exists as a rare promo CD with the exact same music. Side A is reserved for the title track and an "Acid Mix" (which I prefer to the original) while side B holds the massive, twelve minute long Tundra 4, an exercise in excess which is well worth the price of admission alone. Nothing really new with this track, but it's incredibly good and chock full of Squarepusher goodness.
