If I hadn't been trying to find all of Stars Of The Lids previous albums on the net recently, I would never have heard of this album. Luckily, I got it before the prices skyrocketed. Carte-De-Visite might be more a collection of odds and ends than a whole new album, but even the most insignificant tidbits by these masters of ambient music sounds larger than life! Most of these tracks are out takes from their The Tired Sounds [...] and [...] Of The Decline sessions. The mammoth Virginia (20.03) is the only track to have been previously available and two other tracks, The Kraut and The Funeral, have never been released before. Unfortunately for all you completists, these to tracks are absolutely amazing and warrant the lengthy and most likely expensive search to hunt this one down. The duo also pay a sentimental tribute to John Peel on the lovely JPRIP which includes the first radio broadcast of the duo's work on his show for the BBC. |
