I had to wait six years to get to hear the follow-up to Stars Of The Lids epic The Tired Sounds [...] which has been regularly playing in my stereo for so long. I have basically explored that album in and out over the years and I was getting antsy for some new material. Of course, there was the Dead Texan to soothe my nerves until the real thing came along, but, although similar, it wasn't quite as dramatic as SOTL. This double CD might not be as ground breaking as it's predecessor was, but it follows along the same lines and is as haunting and poignant. The duo use brass instruments more openly this time around to beautiful effect. The cinematic vibe of the group is much more obvious on [...] The Decline as well; it feels like a giant film score. These guys have mastered the dramatic effects of well-timed attack and release of sound. Music simply doesn't get much more divine than this folks. Just give A Meaningful Moment [...] a listen and you'll agree. |
