Two CDs worth of radio sessions for the BBC (mostly Peel Sessions). The songs don't really sound different from the originals, but it's still fun to hear the progression through the years, from the drone-rock motorik rhythms of Peng! to the loungier efforts like Cobra and Sound-Dust. For anyone who is unfamiliar with Stereolab, this is the closest thing to a Best Of Stereolab album there is and a wonderful place to initiate your ears. The first CD includes mostly songs from the group's early period whereas the second CD has practically only songs from Emperor Tomato Ketchup and onwards. For others who already own most of their records, the collection is still worth getting just for the slight alterations these songs go through and for the few unreleased tracks (and for the absolutely brain-melting version of Metronomic Underground!). |
