I'm not sure if I can pinpoint exactly why I don't like this album all that much. Actually, I don't like most of it, but I absolutely adore Come And Play In The Milky Night, the only song which I believe is in the same spirit as their earlier albums. The rest is just too loungy for me; the brass instruments get on my nerves and the xylophone is omnipresent, eventually becoming irritating after a while. The vocals are also much less addictive then they used to be (exceptions being the aforementioned song and Infinity Girl). A lot of the time it sounds like something you would hear on a seventies kids show. Just not my cup of tea. I do really enjoy the eleven minute long Blue Milk which sounds like Steve Reich, had he been tampering with the Stereolab sound. Lovely, extremely repetitive and entrancing with a great build up filled with noises and discordant tones (worth the full price just for this song!).
