When came time to get all the Stereolab albums I had sold a few years back, I was happy not to have to try and hunt down all the rare singles I used to own. The Oscillons From The Anti-Sun release had taken care of compiling them all together. However, when I noticed it didn't include the japanese single for Miss Modular, I knew I would have to pay the big bucks to find it once again (I paid well over thirty for a new copy, and now twenty for a used one). So what could justify this obsessive need to find it again? There's no new material by the band; only three remixes. Nonetheless, this is the only place you will find Autechre's phenomenal remix of Refractions In The Plastic Pulse. This song alone is worth overlooking the high price tag. The other remixes are also quite good, but this particular one is outstanding: the frantic beats, the creepy vocal manipulations. It's the only time I've ever heard Stereolab sound so dark and disturbing. Brilliant! |
