Peng! has always had a hypnotizing effect on me. The music might still be heavily based in krautrock's repetitive riffs and general spirit of experimentation, but it has an overall dreamy sound which lulls me with every listen, even on the more driving tracks. K-Stars is my favorite track on the album; it makes great use of church-like organ sounds and the vocal melodies are just too beautiful! You Little Shits uses the same drum pattern as Lila Engel by Neu! on their infamous second album (this isn't the only time they would "borrow" elements of songs from famous german bands in order to create their own songs - most of the time however, these are difficult to recognize). Enivrez-Vous is another favorite of mine, this time because of the simple and droning guitar chord progressions. This is without a doubt my favorite of the early Stereolab releases. |
