Even though this is only a collection of rarities by Stereolab (the second in the series of Switched On volumes), this remains my absolute favorite Stereolab release. The vocal harmonies are still very present, but their dronier side is now in full glory. Take Harmonium for example; the same synth note is played pretty much throughout the six minute song with new oscillating notes surfacing as the song builds up, making for one huge slab of thick analog paradise. Lo Boob Oscillator is another favorite of mine, I love Sadier's vocals and the playful tone of the song. And then of course you have the famous thirteen minute long experimental odyssey that is Animal Or Vegetable, a collaboration with Nurse With Wound. In this song, I hear another wink at the german krautrock scene in the form of the drums and guitar riff which emulates the song It's A Rainy Day, Sunshine Girl by Faust.
