The first double album by the Sunburned ones. There's a lot to digest here, but it's all pretty whacked-out stuff and not a dull moment in sight. There are two longer jams, both over twenty minutes long and both have this Sun Ra influence we've heard on earlier releases. One of the best tracks on here is Spinelight, with it's beautiful guitar riff which sounds like a ghostly chime over slow tribal drums and a funky bassline. Very psychedelic and contemplative. Another highlight is Wishbone. This track has a great guitar melody and junky-era John Frusciante-like vocal yelps behind thick distortion. Too bad this one is so short. This album also includes the first occurrences of the "untitled" tracks which contain no sound at all and last exactly one minute, these are to appear on a few other occasions throughout the group's career. What purpose these have is left for debate. |
