Eclipse Records released this as their first of many influential recordings; first on limited edition vinyl in 2003, but due to the great success and demand, it was later re-issued on CD. The record is quite good, but it's nowhere as good as the earlier, psych-jams that were Jaybird or Wildanimal. The first track for example, sounds pretty tame: a mantra chant accompanied by frenzied cries and simple percussion. It sounds ok, but two minutes would have been enough. Show Of Hands is interesting for the last few minutes of the song when things get really intense and loud. The Easy Ease is a favorite of mine with it's drone and strange keyboard shrieks. Always Correct would be dismissible if it weren't for the incredible distortion blast at two-and-a-half minutes in! The real highlight however is Rivershine, a nine minute drone-jam which includes the aforementioned distorto-blast throughout. |
