Yet another soundtrack, yet another unreleased film (what have they done to deserve this?) Well, first of all, the music is as fucked up as ever; the Girls are very talented at creating bizarre atmospheres out of practically nothing, but it's often so noisy and in-your-face that it would probably completely distract from the images on screen. I personally love their film work. I find them closely related to some of their strongest material (330,003 [...] or Torch Of The Mystics) and Dulce is no exception. I hadn't even heard of this one before it was re-released along with a whole bunch of old Sun City Girls LPs on CD. So I thought I'd get everything at the same time. Most of this album finds the trio at their most eclectic: noisy tracks, improvised drones, ethnic numbers, the kitchen sink... it's all in here. Some of it makes me think of the Vibracathedral Orchestra while others are more like obscure John Zorn compositions. Brilliantly disconcerting from A to Z. |
