That's one heck of a creepy cover. I came close to buying the original LP version of this album on many occasions, but I'm glad I waited for the CD release. Not because it's not good, in fact this is some top notch Sun City Girls, but I've always preferred the convenience of CDs. Piasa... Devourer Of Men is another soundtrack the trio have "composed" for yet another unreleased film (is there a curse on them?) Besides a few exceptions, this particular record finds the Girls in their "ethnic" mode practically throughout. Every song sounds like a short, primitive tribal hymn. Traditional and not-so-traditional instruments clash together to conjure up images of the unknown, the misunderstood, the exotic and it works wonderfully throughout. And, as is to be expected with this band, the results are also incredibly trippy; who needs drugs when you've got Girls in the stereo right? A varied and chaotic mess, this is yet another essential SCG album. |
