Often regarded as Sun City Girls' crowning achievement, this does find the Girls in a more steady form. The songs are as weird as ever, but there is uniformity in their sound this time around; no hopping from one genre to the other (well, not as much anyway). Many of these tunes, like Blue Mambo or Esoterica Of Abyssynia have a catchy, punk sound with playful riffs, there's even an incredible "girlified" version of the Lambada (the forbidden dance!) under the name of The Shining Path which put a huge smile on my face the first time I heard it. My favorite tracks however are those with an oriental touch. The Flower, for example, is particularly amazing, the chanting on this track is hair-raisingly creepy; but it's the psychedelic, smoky thai-lounge atmosphere of Cafe Batik, which feels like it was lifted from some seventies Emmanuelle flick is my personal favorite. Incredibly hard to find today.
