If you are able to overlook the shitty sound quality, this live recording from 1972 is one hell of a trippy album! The opening Spontaneous Simplicity by itself makes this a worthwhile purchase! After a lovely, tropicalia/lounge-inspired intro, Ra suddenly jumps off the deep end into this frenzied electronic keyboard solo you are unlikely to forget any time soon. Even the mellow Lights On A Satellite is bizarre enough (again the keyboards!) to put a smile on my face! And then you've got Ombre Monde #2; easily the best track on the CD, this one is a fiery outing which will propel the listener out into far off alien worlds and then jettisons him or her in the middle of nowhere. Only King Porter Stomp (a cover of Jelly Roll Morton) sounds pretty straightforward and acts as a firm resting place amidst all the chaos. Live In Paris At The "Gibus" is a treat for all of you who enjoy their Ra at his most bizarre and out-there. |
