From the very first seconds of the opening Tiny Pyramids, the listener is immediately swept away into Sun Ra's peculiar fantasy world where things are not always what they seem. There something very exotic about this particular collection of albums, not unlike the works of Martin Denny or Yma Sumac. I can almost visualize the fake jungle sets, the blaring red and green lights of a smoke filled lounge den and a martini in my hands. However, when Sun Ra brings us on such a journey through fake plastic palm trees and smoke machines, that doesn't mean we are safe in any way. Music From The World Tomorrow is quite an obstacle to confront and is easily the bizarro highlight of this double album. The second half of the album alters between the aforementioned realms of exotica and frenzied bee-bop. The primitive sounds and chanting on Africa make it another highlight to explore. Another high quality release by the man from Saturn. |
