This is some very late-era Sun Ra material (the man died in May 1993) and its's proof that had interstellar groove in his soul until he blew his last breath. There is nary a bassline as funky as the one found on the opening Priest, this is as funky as it gets folks and at only four minutes in length, it'll definitely leave you begging for more. The group goes ape on a few of these numbers. Discipline/Tall Trees In The Sun for example starts off with unidentified frenzied noises accompanied by a dense drum solo that hits you like a ton of bricks. 'S Wonderful let's us settle down for short while, but once it's over we're back in outer space with the wild Hole In The Sky. The two part title track is an amazing yet relaxed trip (the tape ran out during the recording of this piece so the nice people at Rounder split it in two with a gentle fade between tracks). I've always hesitated to get Sun Ra's later albums, but this one proved my fears were unfounded! Far out stuff! |
