Ever since I heard about the legendary concept behind this recording, I knew I had to hear it. Unfortunately at the time, this was only available on vinyl and although I do enjoy vinyl quite a bit, I'll always prefer the convenience of a CD, so I waited. And lo and behold, two years later, the fine folk at Atavistic have finally re-issued it to a much wider audience. However this is far from an easy listen, which is to be expected once you find out how this recording was put together. You gotta hand it to the Ra for coming up with this stuff. This man had the genius idea to take the skilled musicians from his Arkestra and have them play instruments for which they have no training whatsoever, and the results are simply out of this world! Oozing with twisted skronks, snaky winds, atonal organ chords and primitive drumming, Strange Strings is so "out there" and HUGE, that the listener might suffocate under it's weight. An absolutely mind blowing must! |
