Album Cover

I decided to get this album when I found it used, as part of my ongoing mission to get all of Kompakt's CD releases. This is one of the label's many remix albums from one of it's many stalwarts: Aksel Schaufler. I'm not a huge fan of house and dance music in general, but as is often the case with Kompakt, the artists have a knack at making the genre sound just this much out of the ordinary to catch my attention. Songs like 21:31 (Oliver Hacke), Leuchtturm and Wurz + Blosse (Wighnomy Bros.) or Let's Help Me (DJ Koze) all sound like the background music in some trendy hair salon, but with a touch of radicalism. It's a bit too fucked up to relax to, but hip enough to have you roll up that turtle neck sweater up to your chin and bob your head to the beat. There's a great flow to the album and the few tracks with vocals are actually quite good (especially Lovefood - Matias Aguayo Mix). It all ends with the moving Sebastien Tellier classic La Ritournelle.
