Each track on 5 begins with a barely audible intro which will make you believe you are listening to some ambient album in the style of Brain Eno. Even though this is true for some of these songs (5.4), fear not you noise hounds as the the second half of 5.1 crams in enough punch to keep you groggy until the next release. On the whole however, this is a much quieter and moodier effort by the band (sometimes you'll have to put your ear right up to the speaker to make sure sound is actually coming out) and is similar to some of Helge Sten's work as Deathprod. 5.5 has this incredibly sleazy late night atmosphere which I absolutely love; Arve's trumpet playing a big part in laying down this mood. The best thing about 5 however is that, even though it sounds nowhere near as aggressive as 1-3, you couldn't think these alien sounds could come from anyone else but Supersilent. A great achievement. |
