Can these guys do no wrong? This is their eighth statement and they're still going strong. 8 certainly is as aggressive and devastating as ever and incredibly varied to boot! 8.1 starts the album oddly enough, at first, I thought they had decided to reform as a noise-rock outfit as this sounds a lot like those early Swans records with a fucked up attempt at sounding jazzy as well; very gloomy, very strange. The next three tracks are somewhat quieter, with a few moments of surprise, epileptic outbursts. Once you get to 8.5 however, you're in for quite a treat, this is easily my favorite track by this band; I just love the way it continuously morphs with certain passages sounding absolutely blissful. Arve Henriksen's does a great impression of the child-singer from Peter Greenaway's The Cook, The Thief [...] on 8.6 and with 8.7, they give Fushitsusha a run for their money. This is but a small glimpse of what's in store; a minor masterpiece. |
