The Third Eye Foundation

National Flag

Ah man! I've missed the whole Third Eye Foundation phenomenon. It's been nearly ten years since I sold all my albums (including rare ones) to finance my move to Sweden. I've been hesitating to get them back because my memory would only remember the (now) dated jungle beats/Bristol sound, but the Third Eye Foundation is NOT about the beats. These are only accessory if you ask me. It's about the fucking MOOD man... and there's seriously nothing quite as terrifying and fucking spooky as this (yet the man still has a whacked sense of humor - just check out some of the titles). Matt Elliott (aka TEF) has a knack for using completely unusual samples (at least I believe these are samples) to layer over his often hyperactive beats. The contrasting effect is quite fascinating. It's basically like popping some powerful E's who for some reason do the opposite of what they are supposed to do and then heading off to this huge rave fest in some abandoned steel mill while surrounded by the living dead, ghouls, ghosts and assorted misfits (they're all wearing fluorescent clothing and busy rubbing Vicks Vaporub® on each other with the nastiest of results mind you). It's a blast, but it'll scare the shit out of you. I have to thank a friend of mine for first introducing me to this artist's music. She told me I simply had to listen to the album You Guys Kill Me - which I did! And that pretty much sealed the deal. Thank God I found a few albums for next to nothing in a record store otherwise, my faint memories would probably have prevented me from hearing this fine music all over again. Now if I could only get around to hearing Matt Elliott's material under his own name... Maybe some day!
