Definitely one the weirder side of the whole Sunburned Hand Of The Man spectrum (which is always on the weird side anyway) even for a SHOTM side-project, Untunes is one bizarre surprise after another. The album feels like a concoction of tape loops, samples and drones. The results are most often quite meditative and trippy (One Man's Death Trip Is Another Mans's Walk In The Park, Where There's Smoke) but there are regular intrusions which disrupt the albums dreamy and creepy mood. Unprov for example sounds like a short, Mahogany Brain-inspired free jazz outburst. Developer is the closest thing to a true SHOTM track on the record (and even it is quite dreamy due to it's slow pace and repetitive patterns). Fans of drone will most likely be the ones who'll enjoy Untunes the most, but it's alien qualities will probably convince others that this isn't your typical drone record. Hopefully this won't be the last time we hear of Unfortune Teller.
