I thought it was over. After six years of silence, I didn't expect this trio to ever record again. I fell in love with their work when it was still new to me, but after such a long hiatus, I sort of forgot about them, rarely coming back for a thorough listen... until now! Live finds these old-timers completely exploding in our faces during this 2007 gig. The music is beautiful and confrontational at the same time; going from passionate and heartfelt to fiery and larger-than-life at the blink of an eye. Despite the fact that he is sometimes buried down in the mix, Kan Mikami's vocals have never sounded so spirited while as Keiji Haino's searing and blistering guitar work has never sounded so varied and disorienting. There is seriously not a single dull moment to be found throughout these seven tracks. I personally find Live to be much more powerful than all their studio albums combined. Just wait 'til you get to the 27 minute monster that is the sixth track!
