The Pop Ambient series delivers the goods. It has been a hit in my book ever since they were first released and I by them religiously. This first volume started it all and it's pretty incredible. You Don't Fool Me by Joachim Speth lays the ground for the rest of the album. Beautiful synth washes with pleasant pops and sizzles gently thrust forward by a pulsating bass and chimes. My favorite track is Ulf Lohmann's contribution, Because is magical tune which will have you fall back onto your bed in extreme slow motion; the breathing sounds, the thick drone and beautiful chimes in the background are mesmerizing. There are some beat-oriented tracks, but it fits with Kompakt founder Wolfgang Voigt' aesthetic. Ambient genius Markus Guentner makes two noteworthy appearances. Geometric Farms track is also remarkably lovely. Only Dettinger's track feels a bit out of place (but I love his work).
