The last album to feature some original members of the group is also it's least interesting. The opening tracks sounds like something The Beatles would have done. Not very original, but then again, the group was told that this album should be "loaded" with hits (thus the title). The tracks aren't all that bad, Sweet Jane is even quite good, but much of the experimental edge the group used to have has disappeared. I see it as disappointment considering the reasons I started listening to this band in the first place. The weirdness and intensity was gone and this all sounds too much like sugar-sweet pop music in general (Head Held High is just slightly more driving, but that's it!). Rarely goes into the CD player, but I figured it's the last worthwhile VU album (the fifth album which doesn't even include one single of the original members, is just not a VU album, good or bad - I haven't listened to it though). |
