You'd better make sure you have a few hospital goons ready with a straight jacket before you tackle this one. No sharp objects allowed in the area either. It's for your own safety since there are some truly unstable sounds on this album. If the buzzing sounds and twisted high-pitched chanting on She Whistles, I Cough Like A Tiger, doesn't cause a short circuit in your brain, then the droning chaos that is Woman Who Weighs Out The Wood will! The group's jazz leanings are highly present on much of the record and comparisons to some of Sun Ra's more bizarre works are inevitable, but of course the Bears have infused so many different influences into their music that they stand out on their own. Jazz, gypsy music, avant-garde, the kitchen sink; it's all in there, sometimes all at once! Your ability to digest so many colorful sounds will determine to what degree you can appreciate this record.
