After having received the special edition of The Inhazer Decline as a gift, there was just no way I could wait to hear the official version which came out on Steve Stapleton's United Dairies label, if only to compare. Many songs on the CD were already released on the special edition, but there is plenty new material to make this one worth hunting down. The opening and closing Planetary Bethlehem are absolute classics in the VTB cannon as is the fantastic, Faust-inspired Here Are The Bounds (sic?). Two big surprises were the completely overhauled versions of Quarterstone and Vast Blanket which are some of the album's main highlights. The noise epic that is Mung simply has to be heard for it's apocalyptic nature and ominous atmosphere. As of this writing, this album is already discontinued, but still available for relatively cheap, so I urge all of you to get this classic before it's worth five times as much on eBay. A must! |
