This CD reissue of one of Volcano The Bear's best albums will certainly make it a lot easier for me listen to it as the elaborate pizza-box packaging of the vinyl edition is a hassle to open without damaging. I first thought of getting the CD edition in order to get rid of the LP, but since the box is the only way to get a copy of Voleven, I believe I'll keep both. Listening once again to Supreme And Sublime [...] reminds me of just how out-there these guys can be. The trio have managed to channel the spirits of early Faust and/or Residents to bring us some of the most demented and imaginative weirdness in the last twenty years. However, The Mountains Among Us is some of the darkest music the bears have committed to wax. It's so strange and alien that the album almost feels like a culture clash, as if on a trip. The new packaging is absolutely beautiful with the CD housed in a hard cover book casing with artwork taken from the early Volucan LP version. |
