Album Cover

Apparently, some copies of this album come with handmade artwork like the earlier releases by the group. I have yet to see them however. Volnono is one of the most low-key releases by Volcano The Bear, the music is there, but it barely makes an impact. Not that it's not weird or boring (in fact there are some loud and very rhythmical passages), but it's just not present. There's definitely a strong free-jazz vibe to these tracks, with plenty of reed and wind instruments, but there's never anything really extravagant about it, as if the group were trying out a new sound. Not only that, but these live recordings are quite lo-fi throughout and lose some of their effects on the listener. Only Queens Teeth feels particularly good compared to the rest of the record. As usual with later releases, the track listing is very confusing and it is very difficult to differentiate a tune from the other.
